Technological Gesture.

Gestures can arguably be called the mother of communication. Even before the first logically assertive sound was generated by the undeveloped Stone Age vocal chords of our evolutionary ancestors, gestures were in place and order to transmit thoughts, opinions and directives. Undoubtedly, man superior ability to communicate is definitely a distinctive quality that may be pointed out as one of the reasons for our superior position in the Animal Kingdom. However over the last century the implications of human gesture have progressively entered and have started dominating the modern technology-based-making-life-easier industry.

The oldest technological application of basic human gesture may be our very own computer mouse. The mouse ushered in the human race from an era where one needed to interact physically with the object that needed to be moved to an era where the aforesaid criteria became more and more redundant. Soon enough we had not only abstract figures on our screen moving to the tune of our gestures but a new belief that nearly all aspects of our life could in theory be controlled only by our simple gesture.

The idea of integrating human gestures to everyday life took a giant leap with the introduction of the so called ‘Touch Phones’ and motion sensor based games. However this achievement has been dwarfed the day when a someone by the name Pranav Mistry, an IIT Bombay grad, came up with what he rightly calls ‘Sixth Sense’ technology. All of a sudden the global innovators we left in awe when they were shown how everything starting from buttons on phones and cameras to computer screens and motion sensors could  be integrated into one commercially viable(and technologically beautiful) unit.
Clearly Mr. Mistry maybe considered as the prophet of a new world where we click pictures by just aping the gesture of clicking a pic with our naked fingers, where our palms serve as buttons and public walls serve as screens.

The age of gesture based technology has long been upon us but it is only now that it is on it way to achieving it true potential.

For a better feel of what sixth sense technology actually looks like check out videos on ‘Sixth Sense Technology’ on Youtube.

Let Me Be.

This time the scene was not a classroom but my living room...
This is basically an 'attempt' at translating a beautiful bengali song  'amake amar motun thakte dao' into an english poem...i have tried my best to uphold the essence of the song in this poem...it is advised that you listen to the song first..the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYsfSlEBh5Y.

Let me stay the way I am,
For I have tediously groomed myself the way I wanted.
What I never had,let me never have it,
Because life is meaningless for the one who has it all.

Like broken glass from yester evenings, if you want to fly away,
Then go set sail into the open seas,
For I’ll not put my eyes on binoculars searching for you.

My ship is wrecked and sinking,
Still I am sitting here, writing the story of my life.
I do not want to keep her late night promises anymore,
So I am forever swimming in tumultuous seas, searching a shore.

When love comes down like a damp, silent drizzle,
With drowsy red eyes do not look for me,
For you’ll not find me near you.
Do not light a lamp for me,
For I am alive, counting waves in the sea of people.
Having lost myself at the railway station,
I’ll not be catching the last train back home.

Your dreams are running high and wild in your blood,
But if ever you get time,
Feel my absence in the gaps in between your fingers.

I don’t like keeping records,
But like onions in the fridge,
I was consumed and forgotten during our last meal.
So I’ll never again swim in the sea of life’s dearest luxury.

My ship is wrecked and sinking,
Still I am sitting here, writing the story of my life.
I do not want to keep her late night promises anymore,
So I am forever swimming in tumultuous seas, searching a shore.

Result Of Boredom IV

No prizes for guessing in which class i wrote this one today...

Sitting for a boring pre-lunch lecture,
As the teacher goes on and on about Data Structure,
I slowly drift away from this forsaken land,
Into the sewers and dungeons of the Forgotten Sands.

Living in the reverie of pc games long seen and played,
The glory of Devil May Cry and the horror of Left 4 Dead.
Seems that i have come a long way from Mario and Virtua Cop..
The teacher says," Now lets continue with Push and Pop."

Movies i have devoured a lot and plenty,
The likes of Gump,Transformers,Pie (:P) and W.A.L.L.E
Forever falling for the beauties in Bandidas and the calmness of V,
The teacher then says," Lets now begin with Linked List, shalle we?"

Withdrawinf from the 'real' world of movies and games,
I realize that my world is now made of Puskinov and Shames.
Looking around i only see guys asleep or half awake,
The teacher still continues,"Be careful where you use the operator 'break'."

Result Of Boredom III

Yet another one...this time written during computer class...

Living in dream night and day,
Hoping that Lady Luck comes my way,
For it has been too long since i last felt 'that' joy,
Forever yearning the same, since i was a small boy.

Listening vaguely to daily lecture presentations,
Finding no interest in the theory and its interpretations.
As my mind gently floats in the eternally serene water of bliss,
I try to imagine my first real kiss.

The abstract world seems so real,so peaceful,
The grass seems so green and our lives so colourful.
Heavenly glory and earthly pleasure seems so close and near,
Always living living life with no dread no fear.

Yet I deperately long for the day,
When all comes true and real as my mind does say,
And I finally find completeness and inexplicable joy,
As I walk hand in hand with my own Helen Of Troy.

Result Of Boredom II

Seriously speaking this poem literally wrote itself...the words came spontaneously...and its implications are so subtle even i can't belive it...btw this is my first poem of this sort...more may follow :P

P.S: Wrote this during a boring mechanics class lecture.. :P

There she stood ,against the setting sun
Looking like an angel from a land far.
Why did she make my heart spin and my head turn?
Why did I fall for her?

How can a stranger move you, control you?
Take you away to heavenly shore,
Make you see the world in a light anew,
Maybe because she was a stranger no-more.

Staring blankly at the dark, silent skies,
I see her every night and day,
Finding true serenity, away from this world of lies.
Hoping for more, tomorrow and today.

Now ‘they’ tell me that she was never there,
All that I saw was my mind’s sinister creation.
Nonetheless, I still see her cute smile and feel her flowing hair,
Thus finding bliss and forever living in misconception.

Result Of Boredom!!!

The mind rarely knows what the heart will do next,
Listen to a boring class lecture or pick up the cellphone and text.
Being taught parallel lines and trying to answer question on cycloids is not strange here,
The first two months of the 2nd year is mostly filled with dread and fear.
Staying late in the library facebooking will do no good,
“You will be late for NCC, Wake up dude” .
Its futile to try and bend the sacred laws of nature,
Thus its foolishness to try to wake up early and attend first lecture.
Here one will find the greatest minds in the East all under one roof,
Trying hard to mug up before exams all derivations and proof.
True to our motto-“To the service of the Nation”,
Wondering when will women’s quota in IIT will receive full implementation.
This is how it looks from the eyes of a laid-back IITian,
Written during a physics tutorial class, this poem I call my creation.

Darker Sunlight (Sonnet)

They say that every coin has two sides.
True: Our lives bear its testimony.
On one hand, Life, Love and Faith resides,
On the other, Death, Pain and vile money.
Neither independent to stand alone.
The pillars of Pain support joy and mirth,
Cherished happiness melts from toil and groan,
And this duality brightens our earth.
Pure Death flows from the glaciers of life,
And the thorns of sorrow give life its glow.
Invention is made after tiring strife,
Heavens’ splendour arises from the Hell below.
Glorious Life teaches us to stand and fight,
And see the beauty of the Darker Sunlight.

Dark Tomorrow(Sonnet)

The setting sun may see glory no more;
Dishonour, the usurper, stands mighty.
Moral vacuum, tainted faith fills our core.
Dust settles over virtue of holy piety,
Right has been wronged by lowly people,
Hoping to earn extra, hook or by crook.
Notwithstanding this, some still stay humble.
Sadly lives are lost over the Holy Book.
However right principles can not win wars,
Bullets do not judge, they just seek and kill.
The once beautiful earth, now sore with scars,
Weeps gently, hoping that man recalls God’s will.
I dream of a day when humans see light,
And when rationalism ends eternal blight.

Two Sides Of The World

PART   I

The new morning sun does rise every day,
Over the mountains, rivers, oceans and bay.
The bright moon does raise her head,
Polyethen packets and metal cans fill our ocean bed.

The green leaves do chime in the breeze,
The young fawn does run with grace and ease.
The rivers do flow and pure raindrops do fall,
And, human hearts are divided by narrow walls.

The night sky does sparkle with glittering lights,
Our knowledge and will take us to newer heights.
We achieve the unachievable with absolute ease,
Yet never do we utter  ‘thank you’ and ‘please’.

We have new leaders better than the best,
All adept at taking right decisions without haste.
Our countries are blooming with new corporations,
Their pockets fill with under table donations.

More criminals are caught everyday,
People work hard be it March, April or May.
The Oscar Awards our people did sweep,
All the while the hungry girl did weep.

Love we have pledged, Hatred we have purged,
Humility and knowledge we all have merged.
We did send probes on lunar missions,
But our minds are still ruled by caste divisions.

We are men of wisdom and brothers of man,
Whatever we say, we shall and we can.
Our planes do dominate the blue skies,
Our pure faces hide deep, dark lies.

Our roads are strong and bridges long,
‘Heal the World’, we sing the song.
At public stages we do donate,
During floods and quakes we all but forget.

Help lines are on 24x7,
No more strong vs. weak, now odds are even.
Vigilant policemen do man the lane,
The innocent child did die under the blows of cane.

Justice you want, justice you will get,
All the political demands will be met.
No animosity, no more cut throat competition,
When was the last time reforms received full implementation?

People have the power, they make the call,
In the land of democracy, ‘right’ stands tall.
Extremists we destroy, terrorists we kill,
Sufferings of the poor we don’t care to heal.

Science has developed far beyond human imagination,
We have understood the law that governs God’s creation.
Temples we visit, holy books we do read,
Nonetheless, we fill our minds with evil thoughts and deeds.

Conservation efforts are on their way,
Weapons of mass destruction down we lay.
Happy are our lives, peaceful are our thoughts,
Nothing has been done to prevent starvation or droughts.

International peace is brokered by all,
They did break down the Berlin Wall.
We do not crave for money or fame,
We just kill people in God’s name.

The New world president is a great leader,
We all give due respect to our creator.
No more injustice, no more fear,
The charge sheet against the politician still remains clear.

Sting operations are a part of the plot,
To mend the government and prevent heart rot.
Our politicians know their responsibilities well,
Did that young boy ever hear the ring of a school bell?

The whole world is knitted into a global community,
Where everyone knows their place and their duty.
People mend their ways and play their part,
Who will pay for the surgery on the poor girl’s open heart?

Social equality veils our nation,
We help people without hesitation.
Security we deserve, security we receive,
Without fear can the single mother conceive?

Live and let live is what we believe,
Pain and suffering of people we do perceive.
Our helping hand stretches long and far,
Why do women get beaten up in the bar?

Battles we have ended, our greed we have curbed,
The theme of love, all our songs have harped.
No more pain, no more hate,
Just check out the global mortality rate.

Paper planes of hope we do fly,
Together happy tears we do cry.
We all know our right and our duty,
Does anyone care about our nation’s beauty?

Commitments we make, commitments we keep,
All around the world cell phones do beep.
We have developed complex software applications,
Do relief funds ever reach their destinations?

Transportation systems are now better than ever,
Our men have grown strong and clever.
Though vast oceans and seas we have dominated,
Displaced millions are yet to be rehabilitated.

Food we grow plenty and in excess,
Mechanization is the mantra of our success.
High yielding seed we use, GM crops we grow,
Our employment rate is at its all time low.

Diseases we cure, broken bones we mend,
The bars of captivity we strongly bend.
The flame of love in our hearts do burn,
I still wait for the day when ‘2 become 1’.

PART II

Old wars we stop, new ones we start,
Killing with one shot is the wanted art.
We kill people with no mercy,
New ideas are no longer considered heresy

Mosque we destroy, temples we burn,
Hit men are the people who really earn.
Pleasure from others pain is what we like,
People still overpower the mighty Everest in their hike.

Drug lords and drug war are in the news,
Short is the length of our temper’s fuse.
Without thinking we do act,
Against injustice people do react.

We keep our parents in old, scary dungeons,
Nobility of the Knight is lacking in our surgeons.
Politician know only the comfort of their chair,
The poor African child still finds people who care.

Many end prematurely end life, sad and neglected,
Criminal politicians regularly get re-elected.
Our once blue skies are now grey and dirty,
Schools do teach the virtues of kindness and piety.

Hurling insults is no longer a crime,
We kill burn and steal to own a dime.
Revolvers and guns flare bullets at any opposition,
Yet some people find time to praise God’s creation.

Shades of black choke our thoughts,
Our warships ply at the speed of hundred knots.
Torpedoes, missiles, nuclear warheads are ready and set,
People do raise their voice against those who teach hate.

Angst and sufferings no longer pain our eyes,
We hide pure truth with dark heinous lies.
Music is a long forgotten treasure,
In helping other we still find peace and pleasure.

Journey Of The Soul.

PART I

I stood close to the Door,

With a hope to know more.

More about life and all its colours,

About human race and all that is ours.

The Door was large and heavy,

But my body weak and lazy,

For I had travelled long and fast,

Through tress, mountains and stellar dust.

I pushed the Door with all my might,

But Alas! I lost the fight.

Neither did it budge nor did it sway,

All this made me feel like a castaway.

My knocks and cries went unheard,

Leaving me felling dejected and bewildered.

What could be my mistake?

What could be the law that I did break?

From beyond the closed door came a voice,

“Following laws is but a choice.

Laws and rules are not the end,

It is knowledge and humility that one must blend.”

“You, my son, have done it all,

Followed laws and scriptures tall,

But you did fail in one big test,

When you kept everything low but your crest.”

“Humility is something not in your blood,

Like a proud Brahmin worshipping static mud.

You must go back and realize your blunder,

The chest of virtues you must plunder.”

Then I realized my big mistake,

Thus the cycle of life I must retake,

And correct the mistake that I did commit,

For only then will I receive the heavenly permit.

PART II

Once again close to the Door I stood,

Praying for heavenly repose plenty and good.

In order to correct my former mistake,

Necessary steps I did take.

Pride I did shed like an old snake skin,

I lived a life colourful and clean,

Humility I did show in all respect,

To all I expressed honour and respect.

Confidently, on the Door, I did knock,

Hoping to see the Glorious Face beyond the heavy block.

No answer did I receive, no sound did I hear.

My former apprehensions turned into fear.

“What is my mistake”, I asked crying

Life I did spend humble and praying.

The Voice did answer back stern and strong.

I still wondered what did I do wrong.

“Humility was you bride, pride and greed you enemies,

You did take part in all the holy ceremonies.

Life without work is as good as dead.

Work was something that your mind forbade,

Karma is something you must know,

Work, and not talk, is something you must show.

Cycle of life is for you to take.

Corrections, for your mistakes, you must make.

Hoping to redeem myself I went back,

Sure that work, my life, will never lack.

Humility and work I will combine,

Surely I will receive heavenly solace divine.

PART III

Before the great Doorway I did stand,

Hoping for a peep into the distant holy land.

On the great door knock I must,

Sure of receiving judgement true and just.

Life I did live full of action,

Vital time I did not waste a fraction.

Work was an eternal part of my soul and creed,

Humility flooded all my words and deeds.

Having unified deed and devotion,

I stood close to the door in silent contemplation.

Before knocking on the door for one last time,

I hoped to hear the heavenly rhyme.

Even before I did knock,

The Door gently did unlock,.

The heavenly light did fall upon my face,

I knew I had come to the end of my chase.

“You have corrected your errors and overcome your fear.

You body is now cleansed and clear.

To you I give my heavenly abode,

The cycle of life is no more your shoulder’s load.”

The pang of happiness in my heart did swell.

I was relieved for all was done and well.

My goal did I reach in two lifetime,

Realizing, non-correction of ones mistake is a crime.

PART IV

Now that I have entered the heavenly land,

My sight was filled with beauty and celebrations grand.

The sky was blue, and the grasses green,

The water pure and the air clean.

Birds did sing, animals did chatter,

This is the place for unification of mind and matter.

Knowledge did flow like a stream untamed,

And virtue did crawl like a baby unashamed.

The heavenly light did shine clear and bright,

In the open night sky in front of my sight.

The voice did speak and I did hear,

Words of wisdom that we all hold dear.

From so high above I did see,

That the cycle of life left none free.

Freedom one must buy with virtue and wisdom,

Gathered from experiences through villages and kingdoms.

The heavenly voice did tell us all:

“You all have answered the heavenly call,

But this is not the achievement of your ultimate goal,

You must find the sought after truth inside you soul.

PART V

The final journey I must take,

The time is not ripe to take a break.

The ultimate truth I must plough,

From the layers of sand and mortal dough.

The truth does not lie is a far off land,

But rests in peace pure and grand.

From the depths of my heart and soul I shall find,

The truth to which for so long we were blind.

The task is easier said than done.

For it one must look beyond the walls of mortal fun.

Mortal value must lose its face,

Eternal truths must take its place.

For the journey we must prepare,

The joy of finding it we must share.

For only then will the human race receive,

That which only our hearts can conceive.

PART VI

The journey took me through lands strange and dark,

Through deep waters of vile thoughts and sharks.

The path was full of hurdles and turnings sharp,

Full of distractions and lazy music of the harp.

Thoughts of failure did infiltrate,

In to my mind when I did contemplate.

Will I falter at the final step?

Will I ever cross the finishing tape?

Thought such as these one must discard,

And carry on with renewed hopes and best regards.

Sure of finding ultimate solace.

I trudged forward towards the destined place.

PART VII

Truth I did find serene and wonderful,

In the deepest corner of my heart true and beautiful.

Finally I stood strong and brave,

Having achieved what my heart did crave.

Beautiful truth shone before my eyes,

It broke all steel walls of misinterpretations and lies.

Having discovered that eternal establishment,

I finally crowned my great achievement.

PART VIII

My spiritual journey I did end,

In the process many wrongs I did mend.

The heavenly voice did finally sleep,

In my soul the heavenly light I did keep.
